September is NICU Awareness Month 💚
At Belleubleu, we honor both the families and the incredible practitioners who stand on the frontlines of neonatal care. Every baby, every parent, and every healthcare professional plays an essential role in creating a nurturing environment for newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Why NICU Awareness Matters
September is recognized as NICU Awareness Month. Each year, 1 in 10 babies are born prematurely, and many of them require specialized care in the NICU. This can be an emotional and delicate time for families, as the natural desire for mom and baby is to stay close, may be interrupted due to medical needs.
Newborns may be admitted to the NICU for many reasons, including:
- Prematurity
- Maternal infection or fever
- Breathing or cardiac concerns
- Low birthweight (about 40,000 newborns annually)
- Surgical needs or specialized diagnoses
Thanks to continued research and the dedication of neonatal care teams, survival rates for NICU babies have never been higher.

What Parents Should Know About the NICU
The NICU is a highly protected, sanitized, and specialized environment designed to support the most delicate newborns. Providers take into account not only the baby’s health but also their sensory needs.
You can expect:
- 24/7 care from neonatal specialists
- Use of advanced equipment such as monitors, ventilators, and incubators
- Careful control of light, noise, and environment to protect your baby
- Constant attention to your newborn’s growth, development, and comfort
A Message for Families
At Belleubleu, we understand how overwhelming it can feel when your baby is taken to the NICU. Please know that the NICU is a safe haven, where your newborn is surrounded by expert, compassionate care. 💚
✨ Remember:
- Stay involved with your baby’s care as much as possible.
- Don’t hesitate to ask questions and voice your concerns.
- Trust your providers—and yourself—as you navigate this journey.
- Support will be there for you every step of the way.
NICU Awareness Month is a reminder of the strength of our tiniest fighters, the love of their families, and the dedication of the providers who care for them.💚
